This is a very common question I see frequently. Many people feel sheepish about asking lawyers if they have a personal injury case. Some people even feel shame. I call that feeling “claim-shame”. My goal is to make you feel more comfortable about speaking with an attorney about a potential injury claim. If you do in fact have a personal injury case, you deserve to be compensated for your injuries.
Take advantage of free consultations.
Recognize that many of the best Personal Injury Attorneys in Florida (Read: 5 Tips to Hiring the Best Personal Injury Lawyer for your Case) offer free consultations either by phone or in person. If you think you may have a personal injury case, talk to a lawyer. Believe me, if I get a call from someone who wants to run something by me to get an idea of whether or not they have a case, they have my full attention. So don’t be shy to speak with a lawyer if you believe you have been injured in any manner. Remember, injury victims should use the competition among lawyers to their advantage. Free consultations is the industry standard. I can’t think of any lawyers who would charge you for an initial meeting or phone call.
Still shy about calling a lawyer?
If you want to know whether you have an injury case, ask yourself the following 2 questions:
(1) Was there an incident or accident?
Were you in a car accident, did you slip and fall somewhere, were you assaulted by someone, did someone spike your drink, did someone’s dog bite you? These are all “incidents” which may be the grounds for a personal injury case. The number of “incidents” which can cause injuries are infinite.
Example:
The other day I was at a grocery store pushing a cart full of a dozen gallons of water (we drink a lot of water at my house), I was making a turn down an isle, I almost bumped into someone else pushing a shopping cart at a fast pace. We didn’t hit each other, and probably much wouldn’t have happened if we did, but if we were to strike each other’s carts, that would an “incident” or “accident” which could form the basis for a personal injury case.
(2) Were you injured?
Do you feel pain in your body, do you have a cut, bruise, fracture, sprain…? Do you have any sensation or physical defect which was not on your body before the incident or accident? If so, you may have a personal injury case.
If you were involved in some sort of accident or incident which resulted in physical harm to your body, you may have a personal injury case.

No one should want a personal injury case. If you have a strong personal injury case it means that you will also likely have severe injuries and no one wants to have severe injuries.
However, it is a universal fact that you can’t control everyone else’s actions. You can try your best on a daily basis to avoid accidents and avoid injuries but sometimes, oftentimes, someone else simply doesn’t care as much about your safety as you do. You’ve heard it said that the best offense is a good defense. Its certainly true when it comes to staying healthy and avoiding accidents. But regardless of how much effort you put into taking care of yourself, you can still be injured by someone else. If that happens, you may have a personal injury case.
