Accident in Jacksonville, Florida
Unfortunately, this story is about a tragic accident that occurred in Jacksonville, Florida. On Sunday, December 5, 2020, two people were killed in an accident when a Geico Field Office vehicle crossed over the center line and went head first into oncoming traffic.
Based on initial reporting by News4Jax, the Geico vehicle collided head first with a black SUV, causing both drivers to pass away. This is tragic.
In watching the reporting on this, something came to mind. In this article, there is an interview of one of the witnesses. Coincidentally, he is an attorney who used to represent insurance companies after car accidents.
Nothing Can Prepare You For An Accident
He says in his interview that nothing could prepare him to be a witness to such a terrible car accident that left two dead. Remember, this is coming from a former insurance attorney.
This hits on something that I consistently try to explain to auto adjusters – even though this might seem like a “routine claim” for them, my client’s life has changed. It’s never that big of a deal until it happens to you.
The same can be said for “mild” traumatic brain injuries. In adjuster speak, these are “concussions” and “only temporary.” However, speak with anyone who has suffered a “temporary concussion” and they will tell you otherwise.
It is a personal injury attorney’s job to invoke empathy with the adjuster. Sometimes we can, but most of the time it is very difficult. This is because adjusters handle so many claims that they can become immune to the human aspect of this.
If there is anything that we can learn about this tragic accident, it is that car accidents can happen to anyone, at any time. We also need to remember that nothing can prepare you for what you go through after a car accident.
