Speak with an attorney BEFORE downloading an insurance company’s app

Fairway Law Group

After you have been in a car accident, it is best to speak with an accident attorney/injury lawyer before you download any apps from insurance companies.

I recently learned that Allstate Insurance Company is requesting car accident victims to download its app and upload photos of their vehicle damage in order to get their cars repaired. According to Allstate, if victims don’t agree to downloading Allstate’s app onto their phones and submitting the photos themselves, they may “have to wait longer” to get their vehicles repaired.

Hang on a second…

According to Allstate’s privacy policy, Allstate requests app users to share their location with Allstate which it “stores on Allstate’s servers and is retained by Allstate until you delete the application from your device.” Will Allstate use the GPS data to help it obtain surveillance on injury victims? We don’t know yet. Still, if you upload the property damage photos yourself to Allstate using its app, there may be legal issues down the road if you proceed with a lawsuit.

If you have been in a car accident, think twice about downloading apps from insurance companies. Speak with an attorney who understands the ways insurance companies may be attempting to avoid paying you a fair value for your damage or injuries.
